5 things to do this fall
The weather is getting cooler, the days are getting shorter. But this doesn’t mean we can’t spend time outside. Since we’re officially in Wave 2 of the COVID-19 Pandemic (don’t get me started @#&%!!!), spending time outdoors is recommended and encouraged. Might as well take advantage of being outdoors while we can.
Here are some 5 family friendly outdoor activities you can do this fall.
Visit a farm
There are so many fun activities you can do at the farm. We’re just nearing the end of apple picking so if you get there in the next few weeks you may still find some apples to pick. The pumpkins are also out and make for great photo ops. The farms near us have tons of other activities for kids like a playground area, farm animals, tractor rides, bouncy area, batting cage, bike tracks, and a cool corn maze your kids are determined to get lost in. We always have a good time at the farm, but they are very popular right now so check ahead to book tickets in advance.
Support the zoo
Fall is the best time to visit the zoo because the weather is nice and not too hot. The animals will be up and moving around unlike in the summer when they just sleep most of the day. Even though the zoo may have closed some of their indoor exhibits, it’s important to support the zoo because they need the funds to continue to care for and feed the animals. If you haven’t been to the zoo in a while, now’s the time to visit!
Check out some Hiking Trails
I have never done so much walking but this pandemic has got us out and exploring local parks and trails. The fall season is a great time for many reasons like cool temperatures, less crowds and most importantly, beautiful fall leaves. I learned from somewhere that when the nights are really cold and the days are warm, this will give us colourful fall leaves. Is this true or am I making this up?
Plan a picnic
This is a great time to visit that park or beach you’ve been meaning to visit. Pack a fun picnic, lay out a blanket and enjoy yourselves. The best part about picnics in the fall is that there are no bugs or wasps out so you can enjoy your picnic in peace.
Take Family pictures
This one might not be fun for everyone but taking family pictures in the fall is the best. It’s the best backdrop and fall fashion is my favourite! It’s an excuse to get your family dressed up and take some pictures you will have forever. Outdoor photoshoots are safe and Covid-friendly since the photographer can take pictures at a distance. You may not get those school pictures this year or see your family as much as you usually would, so having some professional photographs to share will be really special.
Many of these ideas you can do at any time but sometimes the fall timing is best because of the weather and beautiful backdrop. It’s such a short period between summer and winter so try to take advantage of being outside. There’s still so much more we can do outside like go for a bike ride, visit local wineries or exploring new neighbourhoods.
What’s your favourite outdoor, fall activity?

Great list! I especially like the idea about the zoo. Of course it would be more enjoyable in the fall but honestly? I would have never thought of it. It’s such a common summer activity! It makes sense, too, that the animals are actually more active and enjoyable to watch in fall. I am seriously leaving your blog and looking up our zoo’s hours. Thanks for that tip!

I love your ideas. I have 3 kids who get bored very easily. They love being outside. We have visited a local apple orchard a few weeks ago. We go every year, but this year was really different considering the circumstances. We still had fun, just not as much as they were used to. I dabble in photography myself, so I am always taking photos of my kids and pets. Fall is my favorite backdrop as well!

I loved this! I actually just went to a pumpkin patch and the zoo! The weather was so perfect for it. It’s the best time of year to be outside with the family.
