Thanksgiving Craft Ideas for Kids

It’s Thanksgiving weekend and we are celebrating a little differently this year due to COVID. The area that I live in is seeing a huge spike in positive cases of COVID so we have been asked to celebrate our Thanksgiving within our individual household. While this year has been a very challenging year, we also have a lot to be grateful for. For us my family is my #1 and of course our health. My family and my extended family are happy and healthy and that is what really matters. The pandemic has been hard, but we will get through it. In the meantime, we still have to find new ways to celebrate holidays and create some long lasting memories. I was looking for some fun things to do with the kids and found some easy crafts for us to do.

Craft 1: Handprint turkeys

The first activity we did was create a turkey from handprints. I’ve done this one before but what I love about it is that we can do it year after year and watch these little handprints grow. This year we were able to add a second handprint and I love that for us! William is 4 years old so he was able to do a lot of the activity himself including painting his hands different colours. I had to help pressing it onto a surface. For Lily, my 9 month old, I couldn’t get her little hand to stay open. Every time I painted her hand she would close it from being so ticklish. I also attempted this activity too close to nap time so she was not cooperating as well. For this reason, I only used one colour for the turkey and added a bit of colour afterwards. I think it still turned out pretty good. The supplies we used for this craft was paint, googly eyes and paper. We used a canvas I found at the dollar store but regular blank paper or construction paper works too.

Craft 2: Turkey made with leaves

We have been going on a lot of walks lately and it’s so beautiful right now because the leaves are changing colour. William loves to bring home items he collects on his walks like sticks, rocks and leaves. We were really successful this weekend on getting colourful leaves and so I thought it would be a good idea to make a craft out of them. All we needed for this craft was some leaves, paper, white glue, googly eyes and marker. This one was really easy to do as we just simply glued leaves onto a page and cut out the turkey’s head and body to put on top and cover the stems. We had to lay a heavy book on top while the glue dried so that everything would stay together. But William loved that we were able to do crafts with his fun finds.

Here is our leafy turkey!

We had a lot of fun with these activities and William also learned a little bit more about Thanksgiving and turkeys. I also created my first Instagram Reel. Check it out here! Be sure to follow me on Instagram for daily updates on what we’re up to!

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends and if you are celebrating American Thanksgiving, let me know if you try any of these crafts!
